Warm Bodies

Gross!
No, i didn't finish the book..
I can't ,really i don't.
I had all the good will, specially after so nice reviews from my friends and because there is a movie..
It's not just the human flesh and brain  eating and the fact that he killed her boyfriend and now has his memories as the only reason to like her, no,those are minor problems, the big stumbling stone is the actually writing in the first person view as a mindless-rotting-flesh eating-zombie. Common!! I could never feel attracted to such a thing and no reasons what so ever could make me be sympathetic and forgiving for his "case" .
And of course there's the "gross and eek" factor.. I still have the picture in my mind how he is having a peace of human brain in his front pocket and nabbing on it from now and then...how can any of this ever be romantic or..anything likable?
Maybe there are some revelations later in the book that try (and probably succeed considering the books high and positive ratings)to justify the circumstances, but for me personally, above mentioned facts ,which are all happening in the first 20% of the story ,are quite enough to decide that this book is definitely not for me.
I am not even going to rate it.
But to be honest and fair,my low opinion is made only because of  subjective maters considering the book theme, this is not a bad written book,it is obvious the writer has excellent writing skills and i am looking forward to read something else from him but hopefully not in the zombie genre..

  1. It's ok this book is not for everyone. You should see the movie it's less gory. It's PG-13 and a Romantic Comedy.

  3. I will try to watch the movie. I saw the trailer and it seems interesting enough. But I remember when I first read the book's synopsis a couple of months ago... I had the same reaction as you. Ewww... he has eaten her boyfriend's brain and now he's falling in love with her. I mean... that's far more than just twisted...
I can totally understand your reaction to this book. I'm pretty sure mine would be similar, so I don't know if I'll ever give it a try.

  4. Oh, no! I'm sorry you didn't like this. I honestly thought it was gross too, but in the end, there was more good than bad and I loved the message behind the story. :)
You should still watch the movie, maybe it'll work better for you.

  5. ah i don't know..i still can't get the image out of my head- of him nabbing at that brain..yiik
and to think i have to see it now on screen as well..doesn't looks much appealing. But it's not such a tragedy really..there are so much good books out there to choose from :)
and as i see there will be many more movies done by books, loking forward to watch beautiful creatures, did you see it ?

  6. Aaah, well. You really can't expect anything else from a book with a zombie protagonist except that. So that part came to me as appropriate. Even though I am not a fan of zombies, I liked the book and R's voice is very real and totally unexpected considering his situation. So sorry you didn't like it, though. I liked the movie more, by the way. It's really funny!

I've not read a bad review of this book yet, so it was interesting to read yours! I'm not big on zombie stories anyways, so I don't feel too bad now if I don't read this one! Love the look of your blog btw!
