The Sweetest Dark

didn't like it it was ok liked it (my current rating) really liked it it was amazing
 3 1/2 stars

Dragons...yay!
This is a very emotional story and it will drag you inside it
and make you cry or smile with easy.
At the beginning of the book i was sure this is going to be just one of many other romances
where the poor heroine is handled bad in her new boarding school and where she has to learn how to fight her own way through all the
rich girls mischief.
But soon the direction of the story changed and it filled with mystery and magic - exactly what i was looking for.

Lora is a poor orphan who got lucky to be chosen as a new charity member of the elite school for girls nestled in a mysterious castle above the see shore.
She hears songs that nobody else can hear and as the story unwraps she will gain more magic gifts and find more about her heritage.

There is a love triangle of course and we will meet both of her suitors very soon after she arrives at the boarding school.
Both of the boys have magic in them as well, and as much as i was ok with Armand's secret talents,I couldn't really connect with Jessee's nature,it just didn't fit to my view of the story and it wasn't explained good enough..
I don't like first person narrative and here we have the constant shifting between 3 characters from 1st person to 3rd person -
i hated that and it made me confused at times when my concentration wasn't at the peaks.

The writing is indeed mostly pretty, sweet prose and heartbreaking scenes but sometimes i had a feeling it is a bit to much ,
where the beauty of the moment could have been described with less adjectives.

I would give the book 4 stars for some parts and for the ending(that was very emotional provocative ) but there where to many parts that didn't quite fit for me so i will settle with 3 1/2.

I received the ARC from Random House Publishing Group in exchange for a honest review.
The review is posted on Goodreads and will be on Amazon as soon as the book is published.

  1. Did someone say dragons? :D hmmm Although I don't like the sound of love triangle in this one... I will have to think a little bit more about this one...

  2. The love triangle isn't so bad really she never questioned and doubted her self who she loves ,it's just that both of the boys was in love with her,so there isn't really a triangle drama (cause the girls knows what she wants).

  3. Okay, so excuse my inability to notice a play on words - or rather a title, but is your blog title a play on the book title,Anna Dressed in Blood? If so, you have amazing taste in books! (: Okay, anyways. Recently, I've seen this book all over Goodreads, there has also been a lot of hype about it. I think I might give it a try, when my never-ending TBR-list opens up. Thanks for the very much needed review!
