Talking cats,
spirit world,
demons,
body possession,
shaman magic,
boy likes girl,
girl has powers,
weird things happen...

"Your Grandfather is possessed. We’ll have to cross over and get his spirit back and return it to his body.!

Reminds me a bit, with the basic idea,of The Abhorsen trilogy.
Because the shamaness is crossing to the spirit world (world of the dead) to fight demons and spirits.

"Fair enough, ‘If he could be rude so could I,’ I said to myself as I coughed up a hairball on his pillow. How did I get the great displeasure of babysitting this ignorant boy?"

The author made a splandid job by brething animals human intelligence and emotions in.
I liked that too.
I found that The red mark was a  very fast and light read, you can savor it easily for one afternoon. It was a bit to short so i had a feeling ,the characters just didnt had enough time to develop particularly complex or deep.
I am curious if the sequel will bring us a bit more of the story and expand the roles and the world into some deeper level.
